About Scandinavia and Sherlock Holmes:
“Sherlockians around the globe speak a common language about the world of Sherlock Holmes,” said Michael Whelan, the head of the Baker Street Irregulars. Historically it has been frustrating to thumb through the many foreign language editions of the writings-on-the-writings knowing they are beyond our comprehension unless one is fortunate enough to be multilingual.”
“As we have drawn closer, the next logical step is to make the best Sherlockian scholarship available beyond the boundaries of a particular country and the language in which the writings have been created. It is the intent of The Baker Street Irregulars to unlock the riches of foreign language Holmesian literary criticism and other Sherlockian writings,” Whelan added.
About Mandate for Murder:
“While ‘The Red Circle[ manuscript has been studied before, never has it received the kind of meticulous attention brought to bear in this volume, especially the incredible transcription notes,” said Leslie Klinger, General Editor of the series.
Co-editors Gianluca Salvatore and Enrico Solito said “Bringing the Italian point of view to ‘The Adventure of the Red Circle’ has allowed us to evoke the often sad and painful story of our emigrant flow towards the United States of America and to make clear to the English-speaking public the many times misinterpreted differences between Mafia, Camorra and Carboneria, among other specific
Italian aspects relative to this story.”
The Baker Street Irregulars, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is a literary society focused on Sherlock Holmes. Founded in 1934 by Christopher Morley, the Irregulars is an exclusive society of some 300 individuals worldwide that has included Franklin Roosevelt, Isaac Asimov, Elmer Davis and Rex Stout. The BSI has published The Baker Street Journal, the premier publication of Sherlockian scholarship on a quarterly basis since 1946.
