A for-profit company chooses to invest in a community’s future

The Wal-Mart Corporation in tandem with the Sam’s Club at Franklin Mills chooses to support Hunting Park Christian Academy, an inner city school in the heart of North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, PA — February 6, 2007

Since September of 2007, the Sam’s Club (Store # 6332) at Franklin Mills has gradually begun to build a relationship with Hunting Park Christian Academy, an affordable, Christian alternative school in North Philadelphia, that serves approximately 200 at-risk children from grades Pre-Kindergarten to Eighth.  Jamie Warren, the Sam’s Club Community Liaison for this store, was instrumental in creating this partership between a for-profit company and a non-profit school that desires to be a beacon of hope in a community filled with despair.  Ms. Warren was very helpful in providing the necessary information for HPCA to begin to receive $25 gift cards from her store on a monthly basis but she also led HPCA’s administration in the process of applying for a grant from the corporate headquarters of Wal-Mart (the parent company of Sam’s Club stores.)  Recently Ms. Jamie Warren and her Sam’s Club Store # 6332 at Franklin Mills awarded Hunting Park Christian Academy with a $750 Bonus Grant, dramatically increasing their “investment” in the school and in the Hunting Park community that the school serves.

The Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart Corp. grant is allowing this little inner city school to reach its full potential.  Hunting Park Christian Academy’s goal is to “Raise Wind Changers in a World of Storms.”  Understanding that life in the inner city brings with it many devastating storms: storms of poverty, storms of addiction, storms of illiteracy, etc…, HPCA aspires to raise young boys and young girls who will not be overcome by those storms, but rather through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the conduit of a quality education, begin to change the outcome of the storms in their lives.  All are welcome to get acquainted with these Wind Changers of North Philadelphia at www.hpcaphilly.org.
