Viral Video Success

PushON found it was OK to laugh at geek jokes

  • PushON Online Marketing – a mid-sized independent online marketing agency – have released results from their first in-house viral marketing campaign.
  • The viral campaign took the form of a mock amateur video, a parody website proposal to board members by a stereotypical corporate mid-management executive.
  • PushON identified that they were not targeting their potential client base - clearly evident by the content which would potentially alienate or offend such groups.
  • The controversial PushON video contained colourful language, stereotypes and industry specific references - the video was published to social sites such as YouTube, Bebo, MySpace and Daily Motion.
  • The campaign was targeted at web savvy users who would be more inclined to link to, embed, and comment on such a video.
  • It was a high risk strategy, with much debate over how the brand image would be affected.
  • Over the course of the campaign, a significant uplift in traffic was seen to both the PushON blog - which was showcasing and commentating on the video, and the main PushON website.
  • The video was distributed using a number of sites, but performed particularly well on YouTube
  • It achieved 3500 views on YouTube alone, and it appeared as the number one in the ‘how to and DIY’ section.
  • A number of complaints were received about the bad language and raunchy script, but funnily enough one complaint evolved into a request for an equally raunchy sequel from a woman’s point of view.
  • In the aftermath of the campaign, both PushON sites have seen a residual increased volume of traffic, attributed to the relevant links achieved as a result of the campaign.
