ASUCD Entertainment Council Presents: Saul Williams and Lyrics Born Live in Concert
The Entertainment Council, a unit of the Associated Students of the University of California, Davis is proud to kick off the school year with a concert featuring two of the most innovative names in music: Saul Williams and Lyrics Born. The show is is an exciting event for the Entertainment Council, a student run organization, and is sure to be a success for the school and community.

-The ASUCD Entertainment Council is a student run organization at UC Davis. In recent years, they have brought names such as The Shins, Girl Talk, Waking Ashland, Zion-I, Common and Beck to perform on campus. The EC also hosts dance parties and movie screenings throughout the year and collaborate with other student groups during various cultural and community service events. The Lyrics Born/ Saul Williams concert is their first big show of the 2007-2008 school year and will be held at Freeborn Hall the evening of October 17, 2007 at 7pm. Tickets go on sale September 25, 2007 for $12 and will be $15 day of the show.
-Lyrics Born, or Tom Shimura, began his hiphop career at UC Davis and is making a long awaited return. While at Davis, he was a DJ at the university’s KDVS radio station and was a founding member of the seminal independent record label Quannum Projects. His song “Callin’ Out” was featured in the 2004 Diet Coke commercial and rose to #1 on San Francisco’s LIVE105 radio station, where it was the first rap song ever to stay at the #1 spot. His music has also been featured on MTV, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Entourage, and Six Feet Under. In 2008, the much anticipated “Everywhere at Once” is to be released on Epitah Records; it will be Lyrics Born’s sixth studio album.
-Saul Williams is an award-winning spoken word artist who is also known for his lead in the 1998 independent film “Slam.” A graduate of Morehouse College and New York University, Williams began his poetic career with the 1996 title of “Nuyorican Poets Cafe’s Grand Slam Champion.” Saul Williams is both a noted performer and writer, with four albums, several compilation projects– including Nine Inch Nails– and four books, including the 2006 “Dead Emcee Scrolls.”
