From US With Love partners with Dorothy Broster Children’s Centre, Other Knysna-area NPOs
The Dorothy Broster Children’s Centre and other local NPOs that serve children and women are getting some welcome assistance from United States-based nonprofit From US With Love.
Knysna, South Africa — 13 September 2007
United States-based nonprofit organization From US With Love (FUWL) is focusing its financial and human resources on enhancing educational and recreational opportunities for children and on empowering women in Knysna-area townships. The Dorothy Broster Children’s Centre is one of FUWL’s early recipients. This winter FUWL installed a state-of-the-art security gate and created a meditation garden. Knysna Round Table volunteers worked with South Africa FUWL programs coordinator Gill Thomas to build a donated jungle gym. Currently FUWL is working with the Centre to plant a vegetable garden to supplement the children’s nutrition. Other needs are being assessed and prioritised by Centre Director Este Roux.
FUWL is working with the Knysna Education Trust and the office of Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies to improve the townships’ crèches. Efforts to date have included installing a rain catchment system to support garden watering, planting fruit trees, planting other indigenous trees, supplementing nutritional offerings, and providing heaters, blankets, art supplies, and other needed items. An Enviro Loo is scheduled to be installed at one of the newer crèches this spring. Much work remains, but FUWL is committed to working with the crèches for the foreseeable future.
Other organizations partnering with From US With Love include the Sinethemba Youth Development Centre, the Knysna AIDS Council, Smutsville Voluntary School Health Services, and the Knysna Sport School. This winter, four Mathews Genesis bows and five dozen arrows donated by FUWL were part of the very popular archery booth at the 2007 Knysna Oyster Festival.
