Email from a customer to a Seattle retailer, sparks a campaign for Breast Cancer research.

Seattle, Washington—September 18, 2007

Summary
One customer email changed the life of small business owner Kristen Marie Schuerlein. Schuerlein knew her products had a positive impact on people. Schuerlein’s company, Affirmagy, creates blankets imprinted with positive affirmations such as Courage, Strength and Love.

Last October, a customer, Erin, gave a pink “Courage” blanket to a friend. Erin wrote to tell Schuerlein about the impact the blanket had on her friend Jill who was fighting breast cancer. Jill died a week after Erin gave her the blanket from Affirmagy.

Schuerlein was so moved by the letter and wanted to do something. Schuerlein has teamed with Chicken Soup for the Soul Enterprises® to create the Book and Blanket Bundle to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

Twenty percent of the purchase price of each bundle will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“It all started with an email I received the fall of 2006. I got an email from a woman named Erin. At the time I didn’t know it, but her words would change me, and change the direction of our company. After Erin’s letter, I realized how much we could make a difference in the lives of those touched by breast cancer and we could raise money doing it.”

“Erin’s letter moved me. She told me how much having the “Courage” blanket impacted her friend Jill, who was fighting breast cancer. The letter said that as Jill’s friends stopped by, they read the statements on the blankets because they seemed to give testament to who she was and how she lived. The blanket gave so many people comfort and made Jill feel better in the last days of her life. After reading Erin’s letter, I knew I had to do something.”

“Like so many other women, I have two remarkable women in my life who are breast cancer survivors. I just can’t imagine life without their influence both personally and professionally.”
