Wedding Registry 2.0: mywedding.com And Wishpot Join Forces to Offer First Social Networking Wedding Registry
Seattle, WA — December 18, 2007
mywedding.com announced today the launch of an innovative wedding registry available to engaged couples through the company’s free wedding websites. Together with Seattle-based start up, Wishpot, mywedding.com pioneers the first online “social networking” wedding registry.
How it works: Engaged couples sign up for a free wedding website via myweding.com. All wedding websites are equipped with a Wishpot registry. Couples can register for any item, from fine china to camping gear, from any online or retail location.
Why it’s different: This new registry allows couples and guests to shop entirely online. Couples can view sample registries as well as the registries of other couples to help with ideas for creating their own. Instead of registering for the stock items such as flatware and crystal vases, couples can register for what suits their particular lifestyle. They can also add “friends” and trade advice and product reviews with other couples. The registry will also feature “wedding registry experts” who will help guide couples to create the perfect registry to fit their needs.
QUOTES
“If you’ve ever spent 4 hours with a registry gun, wandering around a large department store you’ll appreciate being able to choose your registry items online. In the midst of wedding planning, registering for gifts can be another stressful process for the couple—but no more. We’re happy to help couples create their registry little by little over the internet when they have the time and energy. It’s also super convenient for the wedding guests. With 77% of engaged couples doing most of their wedding planning online, we think this is the next step toward making it fully possible to do so,” said Drew Reynolds, Director of Programming and co-founder of mywedding.com.
“We strongly believe the concept of the single department store registry is a bit out of date. It may have been useful 10 or 15 years ago, but today when the vast majority of the gift buying is done online; it makes more sense for newlyweds to choose the items they really need, based on their lifestyle, from anywhere,” said Max Ciccotosto CEO and co-founder of Wishpot.
Founded in 2001, mywedding.com has quickly become one of the best online wedding planning tools in the country. As one of the most comprehensive online wedding media channels, mywedding.com offers local wedding guides, free wedding websites and blogs to its users making it a robust social networking site for engaged couples. Utilizing proprietary Internet technology for publishing and managing advertising listings, mywedding.com makes wedding planning easy and fun for couples while providing highly targeted local advertising to wedding vendors.
