Text annotation for the Web 2.0 era

A simple Web browser is all is required to use co-ment. Users can upload texts, and open them for comments of other users or the general public. They can then process the comments, for instance to produce an updated version of their initial text.

After wikis, co-ment opens a new age of collaborative work and text-centred public debate. No need anymore for tedious email exchange of texts followed by painful consolidation of the various versions. When one needs to obtain the feedback of the general public, no more stacking of comments at the end of a text: it is possible to create comments that apply to a specific part of the text, and comments can be processed in a structured manner. co-ment was created with a wide variety of situations in mind : drafting of statutes, charters, law proposals, technical manuals, guides, policy documents, etc.

A free software-based Web service

co-ment is one of the first significant Web services whose entire code base (server included) is released under the new Affero GPL version 3 free software license, specifically designed to protect the freedom of Web service users.

An original business model

On co-ment.net, no advertising that interferes with reading your texts, no privacy intrusion for the benefit of third parties. On co-ment.net a free-of-charge service cares for many user needs. Beyond this service level, a yearly subscription to a moderately priced commercial service gives access to co-ment at its full scale. We trust that users will endorse this model that respects their rights. Finally, Sopinspace provides personalized services for users who wish to have their own co-ment service or to integrate it with their information system.
