HISTORIC SPOKANE BUILDING SELECTS LEADING WEST COAST DESIGN FIRM
Mara Gateway Associates, the owners of Spokane, Washington’s U.S. Bank Building, announced today that they have hired Jennifer Adams Design Group to redesign elements of the historic structure.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Mara Gateway Associates, the owners of Spokane, Washington’s U.S. Bank Building, announced today that they have hired Jennifer Adams Design Group to redesign elements of the historic structure.
In the agreement, Jennifer Adams Design Group will lead a complete redesign of the building’s exterior entrance from parking lot, along with the two main lobbies, which are located on the first two floors of the structure. In addition the firm will be re-designing the conference rooms, restrooms and multiple areas on 15 different floors. The U.S. Bank Building is connected to other downtown Spokane buildings by one of many downtown sky bridges and a large number of building patrons and others pass through the building daily.
“We are thrilled to have been selected for this project. Anytime you can work on a building that has such a rich history it’s an honor,” said Jennifer Adams, owner of the Jennifer Adams Design Group. Adams and her team will soon develop a design plan for the building, but offered, “When we design a commercial space one of the main factors we always look at is overall durability, design and cohesiveness. This building is also very unique because of the many sky bridges and large number of people who pass through the building daily. Our design plan will certainly be respectful of the building’s era and architectural beauty.”
The building, located at 422 West Riverside Avenue in downtown Spokane, was built in 1910 by the notable D.H. Burnham and Company and features 159,000 square feet of space that houses numerous business including: law firms, accounting firms, creative services, and others.
In August of 2007, the building was purchased by Mara Gateway Associates, a Bainbridge Island, Washington-based group that specializes in building acquisitions.
“We are very pleased to have Jennifer and her staff working on this project”, said Eli Morgan of Mara Gateway. “The firm has a great reputation and I’ve been very impressed with the results of several of their projects. My partner, Jim Jensen, and I are looking forward to working with them on the US Bank Building project.”
About the Building: Daniel H. Burnham and his firm, D.H. Burnham and Company, built the originally named, “Old National Bank Building” in 1910. The glazed terra cotta structure is reminiscent of Chicago buildings, the city in which Burnham is most recognized. Considered on of the finest works of architecture in Spokane, the U.S. Bank Building stands at 217 feet tall with 16 total stories and 159,000 square feet. The structure is conjoined by high-traffic skywalks.
