PALO ALTO, CA, March 11, 2008 - Deborah Perry Piscione and Shaun Marsh announced today the launch of a new site, www.bettyconfidential.com, designed to be a social networking community for women between the ages of 25-49, with interactive content that includes lifestyle stories, advice columns, advocacy and politics, and “feel the pulse of women” polls.

“Our mission is to help women better navigate their most active stages of life – from dating to career to parenting to maintaining identity,” Piscione offers. “We give women the opportunity to build a community among those who are in similar life stages or have similar interests,” Marsh adds. 

BettyConfidential.com fills a void in the marketplace, according to Piscione and Marsh.  “We offer a place for women to express themselves, have their voices be heard, and engage with other women about real life “day-to-day” issues.  Additionally, BettyConfidential.com members have the opportunity to sound off in politics and advocacy, read the profile of an inspirational woman, social-network AND get interactive relationship tips from other women.  One of the highlights of the site is BettyConfidential.com’s opportunity to poll women and share those opinions and numbers with news organizations and other corporate partners.  “We have launched a very interactive site that offers a unique niche for women.” 

Through her own original research (a study funded by the U.S. Department of Labor), Piscione revealed that irrespective of all the gains women have made throughout the last few decades, many working and “opt-out” women feel a sense of isolation and loneliness, and have a deep desire to connect with similarly-situated women. 

Following up on her research, Piscione and Marsh created something useful for ALL women to have the opportunity to virtually connect (and in-person as well) with other women just like them so they don’t feel like they are alone.  Some of BettyConfidential.com members’ mull over life transitions, such as exploring second careers, finding time during the baby/toddler years, or re-wiring after empty-nesting, and life choices such as dating after divorce, struggling for their identity after having children or opting out of their career.

ABOUT THE CO-FOUNDERS AND ADVISORY BOARD

Deborah Perry Piscione is the co-author of Unfinished Business: A Democrat and Republican Take on the 10 Most Important Issues Women Face, a television commentator who has appeared on the Today show, and programs on CNN and NPR.  She is a former congressional staffer, Bush Administration official (41st), and researcher on the contemporary status of women.  

Shaun Marsh is a software and Internet entrepreneur with over 20 years of leadership experience. In addition to having built and sold an e-commerce start-up during the first tech boom, Shaun was responsible for successful product lines at several Fortune-500 companies including Charles Schwab, HP’s Tandem Division, Fujitsu and Xerox.

The Silicon Valley-based company brings together a talented board of advisors from media, business and academia.  CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, serves as chairman of the advisory board, former editor of Ladies’ Home Journal, Myrna Blyth, Ambassador Lisa Gable, Bennett College President Julianne Malveaux, and former Oracle Executive and Venture Capitalist, Karen White, complete the board.
