WeEarth Gets Down and Dirty on Earth Day for its Launch
WeEarth Sponsors the Topanga Earth Day Festival in Southern CA and Takes On the Goal of Zero-Waste
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 25, 2008)
WeEarth launched its online news, media, and social network on Earth Day, April 22, by participating in the Topanga Earth Day Festival, located at the Topanga Community House Fair grounds in southern CA (April 19-20). Serving as both the media and recycling partner, WeEarth members documented the whole event while at the same time monitoring the recycling stations. WeEarth documented the positive attitude of the attendees and the responsibility that everyone shared while at this event.
A goal of the festival was zero-waste. Although a challenge to achieve, the two-day event only hauled out seven bags of trash last year. With even more people attending this year, the event organizers set a goal to haul out less bags. All vendors were instructed to only use corn and sugar based compostable utensils, plates, cups, and straws. Everything else would be recycled producing very little waste. The results? Five recycle/compost/trash stations were set up around the grounds with WeEarth volunteers stationed at each. With the WeEarth team in action, we are proud to report the goal was achieved with waste kept to a bare minimum.
With bands like Joseph Israel, Particle, and Pato Banton and the Mystic Roots, good tunes created a great atmosphere for the weekend. Vendors set up boutique stores selling eco-friendly clothing and handmade jewelry. Multiple non-profit organizations had informational booths to raise awareness for poverty, global warming, new technology and alternative energy.
As WeEarth continues to grow online, it also plans to continue its involvement within the community. WeEarth’s headquarters is located in Burbank, CA, a city that just announced its plan for zero-waste by 2040. A perfect home for this new website.

MULTIMEDIA ELEMENTS
QUOTES
"WeEarth is about 3 things;
- acting responsibly towards your planet and fellow humans,
- sharing in the experience of life through art, and
- using technology to help society advance in positive directions.
The Topanga Earth Day festival was a perfect fit, as it embraces all three of these things whole-heartedly. We made sure that the waste produced by the festival was properly disposed of and taught many people about recycling and composting in the process. We learned a lot ourselves and in the process got to participate in the celebration of life that this planet provides us. To sum it all up… IT ROCKED!"
About WeEarth
WeEarth is an organization that empowers and inspires its community to learn, grow, connect and create through a network of resources both online at www.wearth.com and offline at events like the Topanga Earth Day. Currently, the website is an E-zine, publishing articles on topics ranging from ancient art and modern technology to current social and political issues. On Earth Day, however, WeEarth launched its Village, a social network creating the hub for users to connect with each other to share ideas and art. In the months to come, additional facets will launch such as the Marketplace, a store where eco-friendly products can be purchased and people can contribute to sustainable economy, and the Studios, a portal for viewing and downloading video content.
