Gary Phillips, President and Founder of Gary’s VACUFLO, the Nation’s largest VACUFLO dealer, was inducted to the Vacuum & Sewing Dealers Trade Association’s (VDTA/SDTA) Hall Of Fame. The ceremony was held February, 20 2008 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Gary Phillips, President and Founder of Gary’s VACUFLO, the Nation’s largest VACUFLO dealer, was inducted to the Vacuum & Sewing Dealers Trade Association’s (VDTA/SDTA) Hall Of Fame. The ceremony was held February, 20 2008 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Upon receiving the honor, Phillips was presented with a Hall of Fame plaque which features his biography and photo. A duplicate will be sent to the Hall of Fame’s gallery.
“Gary Phillips’ induction into the Vacuum Dealers Trade Association Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor. His many contributions to the central vacuum industry have had a direct impact on its growth and vitality. Gary is truly an industry leader,” said Scott Wells, Executive Director of the VDTA.
Being inducted into the VDTA Hall of Fame is a high honor for professionals in the floor care and sewing industries. Those who hold the classification have over 20 years of experience working in the industries. They have conducted business in such a manner to always reflect favorably on the industry, and they have contributed as a leader in some fashion so as to better the organization as a whole.
Gary’s VACUFLO has grown into one of the largest central vacuum dealers in the country, with more than 50 employees working from showrooms in SE Portland, Beaverton and Bend. Due to Gary’s marketing efforts, personal drive and the well deserved good will of his customers, he has brought recognition of the central vacuum industry to the Pacific Northwest and has popularized central vacuums with both builders and consumers.
Gary’s VACUFLO has been consistently honored by various organizations and Gary has been an active member of the Portland Metro Area Home Builders Association for many years. He is a long-time member of the VDTA and has given numerous educational presentations at VDTA conventions. Gary continues to give back to the industry by educating Green Building organizations on the benefits of central vacuum systems and by sharing his knowledge with other dealers. He has been instrumental in helping other dealers grow their businesses.
About Gary Phillips: Phillips founded the company in 1987 but originally Gary was an air-traffic controller and then worked as a trim carpenter in Alaska during the air traffic controller strike of 1981 in which President Regan laid-off Gary and about 13,000 other air traffic controllers. Subsequently, Phillips started selling VACUFLO system out his garage on the after he was initially exposed to the great product and in 1988 in he moved his VACUFLO operation from his garage to Flavel Street in SW Portland.
