New York– July 10, 2008
A select group of youth leaders from around the world will join together prior to the Youth Assembly at the United Nations on August 6-9 to take part in “STEP UP: Taking Plans into Action.”
The program, hosted by Friendship Ambassador Foundation and the International Institute for the Culture of Peace, is designed to prepare these already active youth leaders to continue directing civil society campaigns and/or to otherwise participate in projects that will benefit the Millennium Development Goals, a cornerstone of the United Nations’ global improvement efforts.
After intense one-on-one sessions, workshops, and talks by leadership training staff, the youth leaders will have the opportunity to develop their own projects and work in teams – an outcome objective will be to prepare and present new projects and ideas that they can take back to their home communities.
Patrick Sciarratta, FAF’s executive director and Elaine Valdov, the Youth Assembly’s Secretary General along with lecturers Marc Weiner, comedian and television producer, Bond Street Theater about their work in Afghanistan, Joshua Cooper who works with Al Gore’s climate change initiative, and Engineers Without Borders will lead the seminar and discuss topics such as nonprofit management, creating missions, visions and action plans, conflict mediation, stress management in communication, and more.
“The Leadership Seminar is an excellent opportunity for young people to benefit from NGO leaders familiar with youth led development issues and programmes around the world,” says Mr. Sciarratta, FAF’s executive director. “The beautiful setting and well equipped facilities enable the carefully selected young people, ages 18-26 to focus on working on existing campaigns, in NGOs, or starting them anew.”
