Petro-Canada Launches SENTRONTM 590 Natural Gas Engine Oil

Featuring Enhanced Nitration Control & Extended Drain Capabilities

              • Petro-Canada today announced the launch of SENTRON 590 – the company’s enhanced nitration control natural gas engine oil.
              • The product was specially formulated to extend oil life along with Petro-Canada’s engine optimization recommendations – by as much as 200%* – in natural gas engines operating under severe nitrating conditions.
              • This new formulation will ultimately help operators reduce the need for frequent change-outs, minimize costly downtime and maximize productivity. SENTRON 590 has joined the SENTRON family of premium natural gas engine oils being offered by Petro-Canada.
              • SENTRON 590 has undergone comprehensive testing, including field trials in seven Caterpillar 3300 turbocharged and naturally aspirated natural gas engines used in gas gathering operations in Athabasca, Alberta. These engines were chosen because of their short oil life using typical oils, and varied age, load, geographic location, and fuel gas.
              • The collective field trials validated the performance of SENTRON 590 and the results were quite impressive. All engines continued to have excellent oil consumption and wear metal control and, in general, average drain intervals were substantially extended.

            QUOTES

            • “We’ve been looking forward to introducing SENTRON 590 to the market, and to helping our customers combat their nitration issues,” says Julie Matthews, Category Manager, Natural Gas Engine Oils, Petro-Canada. “The trial results were very impressive and demonstrated the advanced performance benefits SENTRON 590 provides. Our SENTRON brand has always stood out as one of the highest quality oils available, and the addition of SENTRON 590 is yet another testament to our commitment to providing customers with quality lubricants and tangible savings solutions.”
            • “In the Caterpillar 3300 engines trialled, the used oil nitration limit is a maximum of 25 absorbance units per centimetre. A typical oil would last between 500 and 1,000 hours against this limit,” explains Nick Moat, R & D Specialist, Natural Gas Engine Oils, Petro-Canada. “Unfortunately for the engine operator, oils currently on the market have never been able to last three months due to lack of nitration control. This forced extra visits to the engines as often as every month. But with SENTRON 590, and by following Petro-Canada’s engine optimization recommendations, the customer can expect all oil changes to coincide with regular maintenance shutdowns, at approximately 2,100 hours,” says Moat.
