NEWS AUTHORS
Whitley Media must verify the identity of all news authors. Authors will need to provide contact information and proof that they represent the news source. Examples of proof include a valid email address from the source domain or mention of the author on a source website.
EDITORIAL POLICIES
As part of Whitley Media’s effort to distribute news releases free of errors or credibility problems, we have editorial guidelines that we follow.
SOURCE VERIFICATION
Upon receipt of a news release in any manner, a member of the Whitley Media Client Services staff contacts the news source and verifies the authenticity of the news. News releases are not issued until this verification process is completed.
If the news author is a public relations or investor relations agency, they provide Whitley Media with the name of the client that is the source of the information. The representative at the agency must be known to Whitley Media and authorized to send news releases for agency clients.
If a news release is received from an individual who has not been identified as an authorized sender, the Client Services team contacts an authorized sender to verify the legitimacy of the individual.
REVIEW PROCESS
Whitley Media reviews the news copy in an attempt to:
- Check the accuracy of the entire file from header to tag line and all material that has been input by Whitley Media.
- Identify any errors, discrepancies, inconsistencies or other irregularities in the material as it was delivered to us. No substantive change will be made without the approval of the originator of the news release. If the member refuses to correct a clear error, the news release should not be transmitted – Whitley Media will not knowingly transmit an error. If the change is only a suggestion or opinion, the client’s wishes prevail.
- Format the news release in such a manner that it will be received, stored and accessible in the many diverse electronic systems to which we send.
- Code the news release to meet the distribution requirements of the client and the interests of the media.
- Input the various identifiers and codes — the headlines, datelines, stock symbols, contacts and tag lines — required to meet all of the routing and searching demands of a wide range of end users.
- Stock symbols included by the customer for companies about which a news release does not contain material information will be removed from the text, and the client alerted to the change.
